Abstract
The vertebral levels of the superior margin of the body of the hyoid, the tip of the epiglottis and the inferior margin of the arytenoid cartilage were recorded in serial standardized radiographs of 16 children during the age range 2.25 to 11 years. There were no real changes in the mean levels with age, except that the arytenoid cartilage descended slightly in boys after the age of 5 years. At all ages, the range of levels observed in children of the same age and sex approximated the height of one cervical vertebral body. With the exception of the distance hyoid-arytenoid in boys aged more than 6 years, there was no evidence that the larynx elongated more rapidly than the cervical vertebral column during the age range under review. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
