Abstract
Using a covered slide culture technique developed by Knaysi, 105 cultures of aerobic spore-forming bacteria were studied for methods and constancy of spore germination. For any culture the germination process proved constant over the 3 yrs. the observations were made. When the methods of spore germination are defined and separated they are constant for a given species, and have taxonomic value. The modes are: (I) Shedding of spore coat[long dash](A) equatorial, (a) spore not splitting along transverse axis, (b) spore splitting along transverse axis, (B) polar, (C) comma-shaped expansion; (II) absorption of the spore coat[long dash]small-celled spp. showed coat shedding types of germination while all cultures of large celled spp. studied showed absorption of the spore coat. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
