Abstract
The possibility of utilizing dilute polymer latex dispersions for calibration of light-scattering photometers has been explored. For this purpose, Mie angular scattering functions for spherical particles of known size distribution and refractive index must be computed. It has been demonstrated that the computed intensities are too sensitive to the small, but finite, polydispersity of so-called monodisperse latex dispersions, and to slight variations of the mean particle size. Because of this sensitivity, the calibration method based on the use of Mie scatterers is impractical and unreliable. Keywords
