Abstract
Trees with trunks more than 10 cm. (or more than 20 cm.) in diam. were counted on three 1-hectare plots in Amazonian Hylea. One plot was in the terra firme association near Belem, state of Para, Brazil; another in the varzea association close to the 1st; and the 3d near Tefe, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. The spp. were, whenever possible, identified by scientific names; where such identification proved impossible, the spp. were delimited with the aid of native tree specialists and identified by vernacular names current in the region. On the plots 60, 87, and 79 spp. have been recorded among 564, 423, and 230 individual trees, respectively. The results are compared with those obtained by Davis and Richards in British Guiana. The counts obtained are of the same order of magnitude. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
