Abstract
Ranger alfalfa was grown in sand culture with varying K and K + B levels, and Ca varied to compensate for changes in K. Detailed studies were made of the interrelationships of K, Ca, Mg, N, P, S, B, Fe, and Mn in plant parts and expressed sap. Differences in minerals supplied, variations in carbohydrate accumulation, and differential distribution elements among various plant parts are important factors in mineral composition. Constant cation and anion m.eq. sums were sometimes obtained, but a constant ratio of cations to anions on a whole-plant basis was the most fundamental relationship observed. Variations in K greatly influenced B deficiency and toxicity. Relationship of one element to another is not simple since variation of one element caused variations of all 9 elements studied. Keywords
