Abstract
First-instar larvae lived 16% longer when given drinking water and about 300% longer when given 5% sucrose solution. All other instars reared on either powdered corn leaf aphids or brewer''s yeast lived longer when given water. Without water, aphid-reared larvae lived longer than yeast-reared larvae possibly because they contained more water and were better able to withstand desiccation.
