Abstract
The first phase in the management of cardiac arrest is the immediate artificial restoration of oxygenation. This phase, called the ABC of resuscitation (airway, breathing, circulation), can be instituted anywhere. Methods of establishing an airway and restoring breathing and circulation are described. The second phase, restoration of spontaneous oxygenation, is aimed at restoring spontaneous effective cardiac action.
