Abstract
The uptake of Rb by N. crassa resembles the active transport of K in other cells as Rh appears to be taken up against a concentration gradient associated with an energy requirement. Eivdence is presented to indicate that 2 dissociable processes are operative, each exhibiting some, but not all, of the features of the overall phenomenon. The entry of Rb into the cell appears to be dependent on metabolic energy but lacks specificity, in that competition between K and Rb is not evident in this phase of uptake. The concentrative accumulation of Rb in the cell appears to involve a Rb-binding system which is competitively inhibited by K and is blocked by deoxycorticosterone. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
