Abstract
An airborne flame photometer for the identification of large sodium-bearing aerosols from aircraft is briefly described. This instrument is a modified form of a laboratory device which has been used to count sodium particles. A rough calibration of the flame photometer, in terms of the total amounts of sea-salt in marine air, is discussed. Preliminary observations in trade-wind areas are given and an interesting concentration of sodium in cumulus clouds is indicated. Keywords
