Abstract
As part of an investigation of the relevance of polyacetylene production to taxonomy of fungi, diatretyne production in Basidiomycetes was studied. Diatretynes were detected by means of a spectrophotometric survey of cultures and further identified by paper chromatography. Where diatretynes were produced, their co-occurrence was frequently observed, a fact of interest from a metabolic point of view. The data obtained indicate that diatretyne production probably is limited to the Agaricaceae sensu lato and that in support of a classification proposed by Singer, it may be limited within this group, essentially to the genera segregated by him as Tricholomataceae. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
