Abstract
The available data on the effects of gibberellic acid (GA) treatment on the growth, morphology and physiology of some drug plants, viz., Alropa belladonna, Capsicum frutescens, Citrus aurantifolia and allied species, Corchorus spp., Coriandrum sativum, Datura stramonium, Derris elliptica, Digitalis purpurea, Digitalis lanala, Dioscoria speculiflora, Eucalyptus spp., Fagopyrum, esculentum, F oeniculum vulgäre, Grindelia robusta, Hyoscyamus niger, Mentha piperata and spicata, Nicotiana spp., Rauwolßa serpentina, Ricinus communis and Sesamum indicum has been reviewed. GA treatment produces greatly elongated stems with longer internodes and increased dry weights, leaves with lesser surface area and decreased dry weights and inhibits the development of the roots. It affects the quality of drug–plants by bringing about a decrease, on in some cases no change in the active principle content. Keywords
