Abstract
The lithology of the indurated Meudon yellow chalk formation in the western part of the Paris basin, France, the nature of tubular structures in the top of the formation, and the absence of siliceous pebbles constitute evidence that the indurated chalk is a layer of hard ground of submarine origin, formed during a break in sedimentation in the uppermost Cretaceous, and that it is not a fossil forest soil formed during a long period of emergence.
