Detector for the VUV to the IR using sodium salicylate as a combined fluorescent and reflective coating

Abstract
The spectral reflectance of sodium salicylate in the 360–1500-nm range and the angular distribution of the reflected and fluorescent radiation were investigated using sprayed and pressed samples with thicknesses between 5 and 220 mg/cm2. Reflectance is dependent on the surface structure and is >0.85 between 360 and 1500 nm for a pressed sample with a thickness of 186 mg/cm2. The angular distribution of reemitted radiation also depends on the surface structure. Based on these reflecting and fluorescent properties, an arrangement is proposed that covers the range from the VUV to the IR using a single conventional photomultiplier. Good sensitivity and long-term stability of this detector arrangement could be proved.
