Abstract
The oral manometer ratio is determined by dividing the reading obtained with the nostrils open by that obtained with the nostrils closed. A ratio of 1.00 indicates velopharyngeal competence. A ratio of less than 1.00 indicates incompetence of an unspecified amount. The oral manometer ratio is a good measure of velopharyngeal efficiency. Caution must be used in relating velopharyngeal function in nonspeech activities to velopharyngeal function in speech because the two are not the same, although they may correlate to a high degree. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
