The Relation of Splenic Calcification to Histoplasmosis

Abstract
SINCE High1 and Zwerling and Palmer2 suggested that calcifications found in the spleen in the course of routine x-ray examinations of the chest may represent sequels of histoplasmosis, no attempt to verify this hypothesis has been reported. Splenic calcification per se is not extremely rare and a sizable bibliography on the subject was reviewed in some detail by Gray3 in 1944. In general the reports deal with individual cases or at best small series. When large numbers of spleens were examined, calcification was generally infrequent. Barsony and Schütz4 found roentgenographically demonstrable calcification in 7 of 180 spleens examined in Budapest; . . .
