Abstract
The resonance in the normal incidence reflection spectrum of anthracene crystals at 25 298 cm−1 has been assigned to a site shift surface exciton. This paper reports studies of this resonance, by the method of attenuated total reflection, as a function of the magnitude of the component of photon momentum parallel to the surface of the anthracene crystal. It is found that the resonance can be observed in both the radiative and nonradiative regions of the energy‐momentum plane. We also report theoretical calculations that show this behavior is consistent with the site shift surface exciton assignment. Keywords
