Abstract
We present results from a theoretical study of a ballistic electron confined to move in either a spherical or hemispherical noninteracting two-dimensional electron gas in a nonuniform magnetic field, arising as a result of an applied axial field. We calculate the ground-state energy as a function of magnetic-field strength and the dispersion relation for isolated systems. We then discuss quantum ballistic transport on a contacted sphere, a system which is topologically equivalent to a Corbino disk, as a function of Fermi energy and magnetic-field strength. Keywords
