Study ofπ0→μ±e∓decays

Abstract
We deduce an experimental upper bound 12[Γ(π0μ+e) +Γ(π0μe+)] Γ(π0all)<7×108 (90% C.L.) on the branching ratios of π0μ±e decays from available data. We consider the existing constraints on the underlying muon-number-violating interaction and find that the present experimental information on μe conversion in sulfur implies an upper limit on the π0μ±e branching ratios which is not likely to be larger than 1015.
