Abstract
In order to reduce weight, improve reliability and increase safety, significant changes in the design of future helicopter transmissions are envisaged. Such designs are likely to place new demands on conventional steels which will eventually result in the capability of the gear steels themselves to become the limiting factor, restricting any further opportunities for transmission design and development. Keywords
