Abstract
This introduction describes a number of contemporary issues in the psycho-linguistics of parsing and interpretation, and provides a context within which to view the accompanying papers in this special issue. It consists of a general overview of the major topics considered since the early 1960s. with particular emphasis on surface structure ambiguity; parsing strategies; longdistance filler-gap dependencies; the roles of subcategorisation information, thematic information and referential information during parsing and interpretation; and the immediacy of anaphoric reference resolution. Keywords
