Growing Spin Waves in Ferrites in Unstable Equilibrium

Abstract
This paper demonstrates that when the direction of the magnetic field in a saturated ferrite is inverted, spin waves occur which have an aperiodic exponential growth. The fastest growing of these waves have the time factor exp(ΩMt/2) and their wave vector is oriented at right angles to the magnetic field. The significance of these waves for ferrite switching and microwave pulse generation is discussed briefly.
