Abstract
Four birds were found infected with Sarcocystis sp., of 36 examined for this parasite in Panama. Three were new avian hosts of Sarcocystis: the Central American squirrel cuckoo (Piaya cajana thermophila), short-billed toucan (Rhamphastos piscivorus brevicari-natus) ; and the collared aricari (Pteroglossus t. torquatus). A specimen of Ghiesbrecht''s hawk (Leucopternis ghiesbrechti costaricensis) was also infected, but has been previously reported as a host of this parasite. The parasites are described. An attempt to culture the Sarcocystis from the aricari on media suitable for fungi was not successful. Keywords
