Abstract
Kallikrein from autolysed pig pancreas was purified by fractional methanol precipitation, column electrophoresis and chromatography on DEAE cellulose. It consisted of kallikreins A and B, which have hitherto only been differentiated by a very small difference in electrophoretic mobility. The isoelectric point of a mixture of 81% kallikrein A and 19% kallikrein B lies at pH 4,4; the molecular weight (diffusion and sedimentation) is about 24,000. 1 [mu]g. was equivalent to 0.8 kallikrein units in its effect on blood pressure and hydrolysed 1.9 [mu]Mol. p-toluylsulphonylarginine methyl ester/hour under standard conditions.
