Abstract
There is evidence to support the notion that level of activity of the brain stem reticular formation (BSRF) is a necessary and sufficient condition for behavioral wakefulness. However the notion that reduction of activity of the BSRF must result in behavioral sleep is not supported by the empirical evidence. Keywords
