Abstract
THE hemolytic-uremic syndrome is an illness of unknown etiology occurring in infants and children, characterized by acute renal disease, thrombocytopenia and hemolytic anemia. Since the first identification of the syndrome as a clinical entity by Gasser and his co-workers1 in 1955, more than 60 cases have been reported.2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 The frequent association of the onset of this syndrome with respiratory and gastrointestinal-tract infections suggests a possible etiologic relation. The present report describes the isolation of a Coxsackie virus Group A, Type 4, from an infant with gastroenteritis in association with the onset of the hemolytic-uremic syndrome.Case ReportT.P., a 16-month-old . . .This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
