Abstract
Narcosis of a single Ranvier node with urethan (7-1.25%) and phenylurethan (0.2%) blocked conduction immediately and reversibly. Conduction was not blocked by suspending an internode in an air gap and making the external resistance high with respect to the internodal resistance. These expts. would seem to demonstrate the possibility of non-saltatory conduction. A study of the voltages, currents and capacitances involved showed, that these expts. cannot be regarded as strict proof of non-saltatory conduction. On the other hand these finding do not support the theory of saltatory conduction. Keywords
