The Amphibians and Reptiles of North Dakota

Abstract
An annotated list of 11 amphibians and 14 reptiles based on museum specimens and records from the literature. Both faunas are depauperate. Comparison with the faunas of Minnesota and S. Dakota suggests that the impoverishment of the amphibian fauna is attributable more to aridity than to the cold climate while that of the reptilian fauna is attributable more to the cold climate than to the aridity. The amphibian fauna of North Dakota is predominantly western; the reptilian fauna is transitional between eastern and western. Historical and geogr. notes, a key and a bibliography are supplied.
