The Preparation of Some Hydridotricyclohexylphosphine Platinum(II) Complexes

Abstract
The reaction of the platinum(II) hydride containing bulky tricyclohexylphosphine ligands, trans-PtHCl(PCy3)2, PCy3 = tricyclohexylphosphine, with AgPF6 in methanol affords the air-stable cationic hydrido complex [trans-PtH(CH3OH)(PCy3)2]+PF6, 1, The reaction of 1 with a number of neutral molecules, L, leads to simple substitution of the coordinated methanol molecule by L. The reaction of 1 with terminal acetylenes in methanol affords hydrido–methoxycarbene complexes rather than vinylic derivatives. The role of the bulky tricyclohexylphosphine ligand in these reactions is discussed. The reactions of 1 are compared to those of cationic platinum(II) hydrides containing other phosphines.
