Abstract
The area surrounding IRS 5 in the L1551 molecular cloud has been mapped with the Very Large Array in the 4.8-GHz H2CO line and the adjacent continuum. The line maps show a symmetrical pattern of H2CO absorption centred on IRS 5. This absorption region is close to the CS disc of Kaifu et al. but has a different orientation and shows no evidence of rotation. H2CO emission towards IRS 5, and possibly in the outflowing CO jets of Snell et al., is probably also present. In the continuum we have detected IRS 5 and two other sources, one of which has not been reported elsewhere. Keywords
