Abstract
There is good evidence that boys who conceive of themselves as being delinquent and bad are more likely than others to be involved in delinquent behavior. Possibly the stigma of deten tion, interviews with a probation officer, and juvenile court procedures contribute to such deviant self-conceptions. The re sults of this study do not support this assertion. Keywords
