Abstract
A requirement of L. casei for Ca was induced by employing a reduced serine concn. in the basal medium. The Ca requirement was not demonstrable with a reduced concn. of any one of the remaining essential (for L. casei) amino acids. A marked increase in the sensitivity of response to Ca was obtained with reduced Na concns., but the requirement for Ca in the low-serine medium persisted even at the lowest test levels of Na.Keywords
