Pneumatosis intestinalis associated with intracatheter jejunostomy feeding

Abstract
Of 53 patients who underwent intraoperative transcutaneous jejunostomy catheter placement, 32 had postoperative radiographic studies of the abdomen. Five of these patients demonstrated pneumatosis intestinalis and one demonstrated gas in the portal vein. The finding of pneumatosis was associated with intestinal ileus and intracatheter injection of air. It may be a causative factor in delayed ileus, but was otherwise of minimal clinical significance.
