Abstract
This article sets out to look at how China's labour reforms have been conceived and implemented, and to assess their impact on the urban industrial economy. Labour reform is an area of particular political sensitivity because it engages deep ideological issues relating to the character of socialism, so the political dimensions of labour policy are particularly important in the Chinese case. Keywords
