Abstract
The operation of modern railway systems requires a high degree of safety and reliability. This can be accomplished using millimeter waves for communication and control. A 40 GHz line-of-sight transmission system connects a traffic control center with all trains on the line. The construction and the performance of such a 40 GHz railway communication system is described in detail with respect to system aspects and millimeter wave component design. Keywords
