The Radiolytic Oxidation of Ethylene in Aqueous Solution

Abstract
The na-ture and yields of the products of the radiolytic oxidation of aqueous ethylene were determined as a function of [ethylene]-to-[O2] ratio and of pH. At very low doses a chain mechanism is indicated, but at doses above 1017 eV [electron volts]/ml the data are described as non-chain reactions involving peroxy intermediates. Yields calculated from the proposed mechanism are in good agreement with the experimental data.
