Abstract
The definition of the professional construction manager, as recently adopted, is reviewed and examined. Needed skills and knowledge implicit in the definition are identified. The current state-of-the-art in construction education is explored with specific reference to its applicability to the professional construction manager. A case study is made of an existing construction manager organization, through examination of the education and experience backgrounds of its key personnel. Consideration is given to the various methods by which the professional construction manager may acquire or develop the needed skills. Conclusions are drawn as to need for educational developments to support and advance the professional construction management process. Keywords
