Abstract
We investigate general soliton features of a scalar field theory in two dimensions with polynomial selfinteractions. The static solution and its linear fluctuations are discussed in general and detailed calculations carried out for and models. For the linear fluctuations can be analyzed explicitly, enabling quantum effects to be evaluated. As a result we are able to show that the first-order soliton mass correction is finite.
