Abstract
A systematic study was made of the influence of transmitted optical power upon steady-state, Co-60 radiation-induced attenuation in pure silica core optical fibers near 865 and 1300 nm at -55°C. Single mode and multimode glass and polymer clad fibers were studied. The power-density dependence of attenuation fading following irradiation was modeled in terms of nth order kinetics. The analysis reveals that at low-power density bimolecular-type processes dominate, order n=2, while at high-power density high order, photoenhanced processes prevail, of order The threshold for these and other effects is near .4 mW/cm2.Keywords
