Optimal Two-Phase Stratified Sampling for Estimation of the Age Composition of a Fish Population

Abstract
To estimate the age distribution of a fish population, a two-phase stratified sample design is considered. Using Bayesian methods, we describe procedures to obtain the optimal first- and second-phase sample sizes. The potential gains from using two-phase sampling, and the quality of an approximation for the optimal first-phase sample size are investigated.
