Abstract
Psychoneurosis has a high prevalence in the old age group. In the investigation of this condition, some relevant measures of neuroticism are badly needed. This paper describes the testing of the relevance to clinical practice of two commonly used questionnaires. The Maudsley Personality Inventory and the Cornell Medical Index were examined against clinical cases and using clinical criteria of classification. Under these conditions it was concluded that the Cornell Medical Index was the preferable measure of clinical neuroticism.
