Abstract
The initial training of primary teachers in the United Kingdom is undergoing major restructuring at the present time. The authors analyzes the main strands of these changes as they have emerged over the last ten years. Reference is made both to the politicisation of teacher education and to the development of theoretical perspectives which reveal the unending complexity of the nature of professional knowledge. Keywords
