Abstract
Aerosolized β-agonists are an effective treatment for acute bronchospasm. The Vortran high output extended aerosol nebulizer was used for successful treatment of 23 episodes of acute bronchospasm with continuously nebulized terbutaline (CNT). Eighteen of the episodes showed significant improvement, whereas five required intubation for mechanical ventilation. Two of those patients began CNT at the time of intubation. This relatively simple delivery system allowed safe, cost-effective application of CNT in both spontaneously ventilating and intubated patients. Keywords
