Abstract
Recently, several integrated LiNbO3 optical switch arrays have been reported [1] [2] [3] [4], most of which have used the crossbar configuration. Here, we present the design and results of a 4 × 4 switch array using a new non-blocking architecture, the duobanyan. The duobanyan architecture has three banks of switches (see Figure 1). The signal passes through three switches independent of path. The device was measured using the TM polarization at λ=1.3μm. Proton-exchange (PE) polarizers and polarization-maintaining fibers were attached, improving the crosstalk performance of the switches. Keywords
