Abstract
Earthquakes were felt in the Rio Grande valley of central New Mexico on July 22, 23, and 24, 1960. The strongest earthquake had a maximum intensity of VI at La Joya. On the basis of 28 smaller shocks recorded on a three-component seismograph at Socorro, an average epicenter of 34° 21.7′ and 107° 2.6′ W was determined for the earthquakes. In addition to the direct P and S phases, the seismograms showed sharp phases approximately 0.35, 1.95, 5.50, and 7.80 seconds after the direct P-phase.Keywords
