Abstract
The 2 main pigments (R and Y) of R. spheroides were isolated and their properties recorded. Pigment R (spheroidenone) has the probable structure 5:6-dihydro-4-methoxylycopen-6-one. Pigment Y, which is unstable in the crystalline state, is possibly a dihydromethoxylycopene.Keywords
