Abstract
The use of a miniature propeller as a velocity indicator is described together with the calibration of the instrument over a wide range of flow velocity and viscosity. A suggested interpretation is given of the dependence of the angular velocity of the propeller on the velocity of flow. An example is given of the use of this instrument to obtain the velocity profile of a natural ‘wax-containing’ oil, which exhibits thixotropic behaviour, and which is flowing through a wide-diameter pipe. Keywords
