Abstract
The fundamentals and applications of cathodic arc evaporation (CAE) are reviewed. Quantitative and qualitative estimates pernlit direct comparison with other high speed physical vapour deposition techniques. The potentials and limitations as well as recent developments of CAE are outlined. Keywords
