Electrical energy requirements for ventricular defibrillation.

Abstract
Controversy now exists regarding the energy requirements for successful defibrillation. The majority of workers advocate the use of the maximum stored energy of the defibrillator, usually 400 W s. The Belfast [Ireland] data do not support the proposition that defibrillators should store more than 400 W s. The data suggest that this energy level is, for the majority of patients with ventricular fibrillation, excessive.Keywords
