Crystal Growth of Li2B4O7 and its Leaky SAW Properties

Abstract
Transparent, core free and good quality single crystals of Li2B4O7 have been grown at a growth rate of 3 mm/h. This crystal was very transparent and colourless, and possessed large regions free of any optical inhomogeneity. Theoretical and experimental results have shown the potential usefulness of Li2B4O7 for leaky SAW applications. The existance of orientation with zero TCD has been predicted by the computer analyses and confirmed experimentally for the leaky SAW. A new temperature compensated leaky SAW orientation has been located around (0°, 75°, 75°) with v=4235 m/s and k 2=1.8%.Keywords
