Abstract
Approximate absorbing boundary conditions for the vector wave equation are developed. These permit a truncation of the computational domain required to accurately model an open‐region electromagnetic scattering problem using the finite element method. Details are provided to illustrate the manner in which the boundary conditions can be coupled to a weak form of the vector wave equation. Keywords
